Attorney Scott A. Stichter

Named by Best Lawyers in 2026 as Lawyer of the Year in Bankruptcy Litigation, Scott A. Stichter is a seasoned bankruptcy attorney and litigator who has represented all types of participants — debtors, creditors, creditors’ committees, trustees, buyers, and other parties — in complex bankruptcy cases, bankruptcy litigation, and out-of-court restructurings. Since joining Stichter Riedel in 1987 and becoming a shareholder in 1993, Mr. Stichter has developed a broad practice focused on resolving sophisticated financial and commercial disputes, both inside and outside the bankruptcy courts.

His bankruptcy practice encompasses Chapter 11 reorganizations, creditor and debtor representation, insolvency-related disputes, and out-of-court workouts. He also has extensive experience with bankruptcy litigation and related commercial disputes, including matters involving competing claims and interests among debtors, creditors, trustees, and other stakeholders. His courtroom and appellate experience enables him to address complex disputes strategically while keeping the broader restructuring objectives in view.

Mr. Stichter’s experience and leadership have earned consistent recognition from leading legal publications. He has received an “AV” (highest rating) from Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory. He has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America in Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights / Insolvency and Reorganization Law and Litigation–Bankruptcy since 2010, and in 2026 was named Tampa’s Lawyer of the Year for Litigation–Bankruptcy. He has also been ranked by Chambers & Partners in Bankruptcy/Restructuring since 2013 and is regularly recognized by Florida Super Lawyers for his insolvency and bankruptcy practice and has been rated by Super Lawyers as one of the Top 50 Lawyers in Florida.

A Tampa native, Mr. Stichter graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1984 and received his J.D. from Wake Forest University School of Law in 1987. He is a past President and Chair of the Tampa Bay Bankruptcy Bar Association and regularly speaks on insolvency issues. He is admitted to practice in all Florida state courts, the United States District Courts for the Middle, Northern, and Southern Districts of Florida, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
